I am the first to admit that life has been good to me. I have enjoyed two wonderful careers in ICT and worked for and with some fantastic people along the way. I was also lucky enough to find my calling in the first career as a soldier and that doesn’t happen too often, so again I am very grateful. I left that life by choice, albeit my heart said no, my brain said yes and proved to be right. The second career has given me many things and now, as I swing into the twilight of my working life, I intend to bring everything together to create something really special. My intention is that it will benefit the two areas in which I have spent my entire career, the MOD and Emergency Services (ES). This is my opportunity to give something back to both markets, whilst providing me with the type of challenge that I thrive on; it will also ensure that I continue to lead a busy, fulfilling life making a genuine contribution to Public Safety and the defence of our country.
To set the conditions for this adventure, I have incorporated a new business that will deliver consultancy into both areas; my intention is to drive this business from an integrity basis and to try to bring Industry closer to their customers. There is so much to be achieved and I have always believed that better outcomes can be provided through closer collaboration between the various partners. Suppliers have so much more to bring than just their products and services, in many cases they have enormous knowledge of the customer’s business domain, related processes and most importantly, how to enhance capability whilst improving efficiency and reducing costs. In the past, suppliers have settled for simply answering the customers questions on tenders and it is time for change. The supplier base needs to step up and the customers need to embrace the benefits of such change. Let suppliers bring forward collaborated solutions that provide new capability, without pushing enormous cost onto the customer, often for unnecessary development.

There is a lot to think about in this space and change won’t happen overnight, but I look forward to being part of the debate. I intend to have fun, enjoy working with some great people and deliver outstanding service to my customer base; that should keep me busy for a while. The business goes “live” on the 3rd August 2020.
